Hendrix Microbiology Camp

“Is food safe to eat after it has touched the floor?”

If this question is intriguing and you are curious about how microbes impact our daily lives, promote good health, and produce some of our favorite foods, then join Dr. Andrew Schurko (Professor of Biology) at this weeklong day camp where participants will:

  • engage in exciting activities that use a variety of laboratory equipment and techniques to get a glimpse into the amazing world of microorganisms
  • collect samples from nature, grow bacterial colonies in the lab, and use microscopes to view microbes
  • use modern genetic techniques to make bacterial cells glow fluorescent green!
  • make food (that you can eat and take home) with bacteria.

Hendrix Microbiology Camp Registration

*Recognizing that families have different abilities to pay, we use a voluntary three-tier registration fee. Families may choose the registration amount that is most suitable for them. No questions asked. It is a “free will” system; you pick the level that is affordable for your family. No matter what amount you choose, the activities and experiences are the same. It’s our way of making this opportunity more affordable for more families.
