Insurance & Immunization Requirements

Health Insurance Requirement

All Hendrix College students are required to have health insurance, through a family employee plan, a private insurer or the quality plan offered by the college.  You may contact our business office at studentaccounts@hendrix.edu with questions.

Vaccine Requirement

MMR (measles, mumps, & rubella)

The Arkansas State Board of Health requires students to show proof of immunization, immunity, a medical or non-medical exemption, or birth before 1957.  Incoming freshmen and foreign-born students (any student born outside the United States of America), must have two doses of MMR vaccine.

Proof of immunization, immunity, a medical or non-medical exemption, or birth before 1957 must be provided within 30 calendar days after enrollment.  If such proof is not provided, the student will be excluded from Hendrix College until documentation is provided.

Accepted proof of immunizations include an immunization record provided by:

  • a licensed physician
  • health department
  • military service
  • official record from another educational institution in Arkansas
  • Terms such as "compete" or "up-to-date" are not acceptable
  • Proof of immunity:  A copy of the serological test should be submitted to the Arkansas Department of Health Immunization Section, along with a letter requesting that the serological test be accepted as proof of immunity.  After review by the Medical Director, a letter will be sent to both the individual and the college

Exemptions

Hendrix College and the Arkansas Department of Health recognizes medical, religious & philosophical exemptions.  All of which are issued by the Arkansas Department of Health.  You may contact the Arkansas Department of Health, Immunization section, immunizationsection@arkansas.gov  to request an application.

Meningococcal Meningitis Advisement

Meningococcal Meningitis is a rare but potentially dangerous illness. Although the risk of contracting this disease is low for the general population, there is increased risk for college-aged students due to risk factors that often are a part of campus life. One of these risk factors include residence hall living. As a preventative measure, Hendrix College requires students be vaccinated against the potentially fatal disease. Please check with your health care providers or local department of health for further information regarding available vaccines or contact us at (501) 450-1448.
