Student Orgs

Goals

Activism:

ECC is an advocate for environmental and sustainable causes. We support the mission and vision of Arkansas organizations like Arkansas Interfaith Power and Light, Conway Locally Grown, and the Faulkner County Urban Farming Project. We help make students aware of currently contested environmental topics and provide resources for them to take action.

Annual Events:

ECC holds many yearly events and programs like New Student Orientation Green Team, Local Food Week in the fall, No Shave November, Earth Week in the Spring, and Trash to Treasure at the end of the school year.

Awareness:

ECC Leaders and Representatives communicate regularly with students about topical environmental issues on campus including those particularly pertaining to a student’s Housing Unit. We also host programs designed for students to think about an environmental or sustainability topic.

Community:

ECC works with community organizations throughout the Conway and Greater Little Rock area to collaborate on hosting programs like community movie screenings, to complete environmental service work, and to help develop the environmental movement throughout Arkansas.

Education:

ECC Representatives complete Leadership Goals in which they host programs to educate students about recycling procedures, good environmental practices, cool sustainable projects, and ways to get involved with sustainable living.

Family:

ECC Leaders and Representatives work as a performing team or like minded, unique individuals, and we all enjoy the community that brings. It cannot all be about work after all; the interesting recycling we find often provides enough conversation topics to fill lifetimes.

Integration:

ECC partners with many organizations within the Hendrix community on various issues including: the Volunteer Action Committee, Hendrix Culinary Club, Garden Club, Students for Latin and Iberian Culture, the Multicultural Development Committee, and Anime Club. We also have a voice in Student Senate, with the Environmental Studies Department, with Dining Services, with Facilities Management, and with the Senior Leadership of the College.

Leadership:

ECC is the only environmental group on campus and there is no Office of Sustainability or Sustainability Coordinator, so we are the major drivers behind sustainable practices, pushing new sustainability ideas, and helping integrate the various College groups working on environmental issues.

Liaison:

ECC addresses Constituent Concerns from students, faculty, and staff. We will make sure your concerns about sustainability and environmental practices are heard and resolved as best we can. If you propose a new program, we can work with you to help get your proposal heard.

Service:

ECC provides many services at no cost to students of the College and to the community. These include our Dish Check-Out program, the Free Store, Clean-Up Sundays, recycling at major events, Trash to Treasure, Hendrix Creek Preserve Clean-Up, Orientation Green Team, community service events, and Housing Representative programs among other things.

Recurring Events:

ECC has bi-weekly meetings, holds the Free Store every Tuesday, runs Clean-Up Sunday, runs the Thursday Plate Scrapings, provides a Green Team to collect recycling at or pick-up recycling after major campus parties and sporting events, and has the Dish Check-Out Program.

Representation:

ECC represents the environmental concerns of all students, faculty, and staff in the Hendrix College Student Senate. We also work to address items related to the ECC mission that arise in Student Senate meetings.
