CONWAY, Ark. (May 4, 2021) – Twenty-seven Hendrix College
seniors on April 28 were elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Society’s Beta of Arkansas chapter at
Hendrix. Because of precautions related to the coronavirus pandemic, the
ceremony was held via videoconference.
Founded in 1776, Phi Beta Kappa is the nation’s oldest and
largest academic honor society, with more than half a million members. It has
chapters at 290 of the finest colleges and universities in the United States, 50
alumni associations, and more than half a million members worldwide. Noteworthy
members include 17 U.S. Presidents, 41 U.S. Supreme Court Justices, and more
than 140 Nobel Laureates. The mission of The Phi Beta Kappa Society is to
champion education in the liberal arts and sciences, foster freedom of thought,
and recognize academic excellence.
