CONWAY, Ark. (October
1, 2019) — Hendrix College has selected Akademos, an online course materials
platform, to manage textbook adoptions and sales starting in the Spring 2020
semester.
The move to
Akademos follows the closing this month of Village Books, which had been
managed by the College’s previous retail partner.
Akademos will provide
students with a wide selection of course material format options including new,
used, eBook, and rental at significant savings in addition to 24x7x365
accessibility and free shipping for all retail orders of new and used books
over $49.
Students can
access these materials through a new website that conveniently integrates
student courses, associated course materials, and multiple purchasing options
with a single sign-on. The new website will go live for faculty to enter their
textbook adoptions Oct. 14, and for student ordering Dec. 2. Increased
embeddedness in College systems will make the new bookstore a well-integrated
component of the Hendrix student experience.
"We are
excited to welcome Akademos as the College’s textbook vendor,” said Hendrix
Provost Dr. Terri Bonebright. “They have a great reputation among their clients
in higher education. We believe they will provide better prices, easier access
to materials, and great customer service to our students and faculty members.”
Faculty and
administrators will have access to a comprehensive platform that offers a
modernized process for managing all aspects of course materials adoption: a
step-by-step guide for selections, recommendations, and past adoption history,
with the ability to compare prices in real-time. The analytics tools also give
leadership increased visibility into the process with the ability to track
critical data, including student purchasing and utilization, and the ability to
connect with faculty and students via built-in notifications.
A Hendrix spirit
shop will open on campus later this year, providing a source for students,
community members, and alumni to purchase Hendrix-branded spirit wear and gift
items. The spirit shop will also have a presence in the Wellness and Athletics
Center during certain varsity sporting events. Hendrix Athletics spirit wear is
also available online.
