CONWAY, Ark. (September 21, 2018) – The first installment in a
new lecture series at Hendrix College will take place next week, and will
feature a psychologist known for her research related to intimate partner
violence.
Dr. Renee McDonald will deliver the lecture, “Challenges and
Opportunities for Reducing Sexual Assault on College Campuses” on Thursday,
September 27, at 11:10 a.m. in Staples Auditorium.
McDonald is the Associate Dean for Research in Southern
Methodist University’s Dedman College of Humanities and Science, and is a
professor in the Department of Psychology. She is a consultant to academic
departments and professional agencies around the country, and she has
spearheaded efforts to document the prevalence of children’s exposure to
intimate partner violence, to understand short- and long-term effects of
violence on children, and to develop and evaluate treatments for children
exposed to violence. The National Institute of Mental Health, the National
Institute of Justice, the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism,
the Centers for Disease Control, and the Office of Juvenile Justice and
Delinquency Prevention, U.S. Department of Justice have funded her research.
“This series is part our promise to the Hendrix community to
provide more educational programming on Title IX and gender-based misconduct,”
said Hendrix President William M. Tsutsui.
In addition to delivering her lecture, McDonald will also meet
with staff, faculty, and students who sit on committees related to student
life, diversity and dialogue, and sexual assault education and responsibility.
