CONWAY, Ark. (March 20, 2018)
— The Brass and Percussion Showcase featuring performances by musicians from
all over central Arkansas will take place Monday, April 2, at 7:30 p.m. in
Staples Auditorium.
This concert features
musicians from Hendrix College and the surrounding central Arkansas region. The
first half of the concert will include the Hendrix College Percussion Ensemble,
under the direction of Mr. Evan Barr, adjunct instructor of percussion at Hendrix.
The first half will also feature the debut performance of the Central Arkansas
Trumpets, a community ensemble of trumpet performers from the central Arkansas
region. This group was recently formed by Dr. Stephen James, adjunct instructor
of trumpet at Hendrix, in an effort to provide a new musical opportunity for
the trumpet community in this region of the state.
During the second half of
the program, Dr. Gretchen Renshaw James, assistant professor of music at
Hendrix and music director of the Natural State Brass Band, will lead the NSBB
in a preview performance of the music they have prepared for the North American
Brass Band Association Championships (NABBA). The NSBB took home third prize in
their division in the 2017 NABBA Championships and look to build on their
success at the 2018 Championships.
