Evan Barr, percussion

Evan Barr has been the principal percussionist for the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra since 2005. A native of Nashville, Tennessee, Evan was raised on the music of Stravinsky, Bach, and The Beatles. Evan received his Bachelor’s degree in Music at Vanderbilt University and his Master’s degree at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. His primary teachers include Allen Otte, James Culley, and Russell Burge, of Percussion Group Cincinnati, William Wiggins, Frank Shaffer, and Timothy K. Adams.

 In addition to his work with the ASO, Evan teaches percussion at Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas. He has held previous faculty positions at University of Memphis and University of Arkansas Pine Bluff. Evan has performed with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra, the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, and Percussion Group Cincinnati.  Evan has a strong commitment to new music and is regularly involved in the performance of new compositions for solo and chamber percussion. Evan currently resides in Little Rock.
