National Recognition

Hendrix has a long and proud tradition of national recognition. As early as 1900, Hendrix was recognized by the U.S. Office of Education as having higher standards for admission and graduation than any other institution of higher learning in Arkansas. That recognition continues today as Hendrix is recognized by numerous journals and college guides for academic quality, campus life, community values, engaged learning, innovation, and value.

Colleges That Change Lives

In its newest edition, Colleges That Change Lives once again selects Hendrix for inclusion in "40 Schools that will Change the Way You Think About Colleges."

Former New York Times education editor Loren Pope wrote the guidebook to help students, parents and counselors find a good college match. In the latest revision, Hilary Masell Oswald profiles colleges that make a real difference in the lives of students. The choices in the book were based on Pope’s years of research as a journalist, as well as his and Masell's direct interaction with students and graduates of the CTCL schools. The 40 colleges he evaluates are known for their abilities to serve students with a wide range of abilities yet produce higher proportions of scientists and scholars.

In summing up her reason for selecting Hendrix, which has a nine-page profile in the book, Pope writes: "...I was unexpectedly blown away by Hendrix. It is an exemplary college and teenagers of a wide range of abilities and interests would find this a very happy fit socially…There should be at least one college as good as Hendrix in every state."

Fiske Guide

Hendrix College is among 300 colleges and universities in the United States, Canada, and Great Britain featured in the Fiske Guide to Colleges 2017 based on “a broad range of Hendrix subjects, including student body, academics, social life, financial aid, campus setting, housing, food, and extracurricular activities.”

Hendrix appeared in Forbes’ 2016 America’s Best Value Colleges. Hendrix ranked #233 overall and also ranked #174 in Private Colleges, #91 in Liberal Arts Universities, #42 in the South, and #90 in  Grateful Grads. The College also earned a Forbes Financial Grade of “A-” and was listed as the best college in Arkansas based on Forbes’ Top Colleges rankings.

U.S News & World Report

Hendrix College is #72 in the 2017 U.S News & World Report “Best National Liberal Arts Colleges” ranking, advancing 10 spots from last year.

Hendrix is also #4 on a list of the top 10 “Most Innovative” National Liberal Arts Colleges. The institutions on this list were nominated by college presidents, provosts and admissions dean, who were asked which schools are making “the most innovative improvements in terms of curriculum, faculty, students, campus life, technology or facilities.”

Hendrix is the only top 100 nationally ranked liberal arts college in Arkansas and is ranked higher than any other national liberal arts college in Texas and the states surrounding it in this year’s U.S. News rankings.

Hendrix continues to receive national recognition for the quality of its academic programs, its commitment to the importance of character formation, and the value of its educational product.
