FRENCH 410 - Medieval and Renaissance Literature

This course presents an overview of the great works of the Middle Ages and Renaissance in France. A brief introduction to Old French will be offered, but Old French is not required to read the material. Readings include such masterworks as the Chanson de Roland, Tristan et Iseut, the work of Marie de France, the poetry of Ronsard and Du Bellay, the essays of Montaigne, and the satirical writings of Rabelais. A prerequisite of at least French 210 (Intermediate Composition and Conversation) is recommended.
