Paid Volunteers Needed for Research Study Examining Sleep, Work, and Social Relationships

 When:

Data collection will occur from January 7th through January 13th.  Your date and time of participation will be flexible around your schedule.

What will you get to do?

  • We will send you a kit to collect a small fecal sample (much like you would use for an at home colon cancer screening) and a set of questionnaires about you and your sleep (≈4o minutes).
  • Shortly after, a researcher will contact you by telephone (≈7 minutes) to set up a time at your convenience to interview you in person about your sleep, work, and social relationships.  We would also teach you how to fill out a sleep/wake diary and how to use a Z-machine, a small electronic device that you sleep with in your own home to measure your sleep (≈1 ½ hours).
  • During the next two nights, at bedtime, you will fill out a diary of your sleep-related behaviors for the day, then you will sleep in your own residence with the Z-machine.  In the morning, you will complete a diary about your sleep that night (≈30 minutes total).
  • We will set up a convenient time to return your materials and receive your incentive (≈5 minutes).

What will you get?

You will receive $50 for completion of the study and self-knowledge about your sleep.

Who can participate?

  • Participants must be 55-75 years of age
  • You must have lived in or around Loma Linda for at least the past 20 years (short periods away such as schooling or work transfers can be ok).
  • You must not have taken an antibiotic during the last 2 weeks.
