April 2008 -- It has been a busy month for the physics department!

  • Dr. Richard Rolleigh's service to the department and college were honored during Alumni Weekend.  Dr Rolleigh gave one Last Lecture.  There was an open house reception in the Morgan Center to honor him and Dr. Warfield Teague (Chemistry).  Several former and current students and colleagues went out to dinner with Dr. Rolleigh at the Conway Country Club.
  • The establishment of the Rolleigh Undergraduate Research Endowment Fund was announced during the Alumni Weekend festivities.  This fund, set up in Dr. Rolleigh's name, will be used to fund undergraduate research opportunities in physics at Hendrix.  If you are interested in donating to the fund please contact the department chair, Dr. Ann Wright.
  • Adam Jacobs '09 and Josh Wilson '08 presented talks at the 2008 April Meeting of the American Physical Society at the Hyatt Regency Riverfront Hotel in St. Louis, MO.  Adam received a book award commending him for his excellent talk.  Only twelve of the forty undergraduate researchers presenting at the conference received awards.
  • Abram Harder '08 presented a talk at the Arkansas Space Grant Consortium Symposium atop Petit Jean Mountain at the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute.

March 2008 -- Several members of the Hendrix physics community traveled to Little Rock to attend a lecture by Nobel laureate William Phillips.

December 2007 -- If you are an alum of the department then please visit our Physics Alumni Update Form and let us know what you have been up to.

August 2007 -- The department is pleased to welcome two new faculty members:  Dr. Damon Spayde and Dr. Todd Tinsley.  Our new faculty members are replacements for Dr. Bandyopadhyay, who left the department to become Division Head of Science at Penn State Berks a year ago, and Dr. Rolleigh, who will retire at the end of the 2007-2008 academic year.
