- Traffic Solutions: The streets at the northwest corner of campus meet in a roundabout, rather than a stoplight-controlled intersection. Instead of forcing dozens of cars to idle behind a red light, the roundabout keeps traffic flowing – shortening driving times and saving gas. Two more roundabouts are in the works, to direct traffic at other busy intersections on the perimeter of the college.
- Green Building Tour: Hendrix senior Hannah Wilkin, junior Drew Gatlin and sophomore Emily Uhar organized the first Central Arkansas Collegiate Green Building Tour in November with help from local LEED consultant April Ambrose (Hendrix alumna from the class of 2001). Other event sponsors included the Arkansas Earth Day Foundation, Hendrix College Student Senate, the City of Little Rock, Boulevard Bread Company, and ecoIntegration. The tour, on a biodiesel school bus, included stops at: the future City Grove Townhomes in North Little Rock (NLR); the NLR Junior League; the Argenta Community Gardens; The Vertical Lofts in Little Rock; and the Heifer International building. Event organizers are already organizing a similar tour in conjunction with Arkansas Earth Day’s annual festival on Saturday, April 25, in North Little Rock.
