The Gender Studies minor is designed as an interdisciplinary program that focuses on the questions about gender that arise across the disciplines in a liberal arts college. The array of courses that constitute the Gender Studies curriculum cross departmental lines and academic areas, acquainting students with the myriad ways in which issues of gender affect the interpretation of works of literature, the structures of societies and cultures, the ways of communicating, the nature of religious experiences, or the protocols of medical researchers. Within each Gender Studies course, knowledge of that discipline's approach to questions of gender and its appropriation of the theories that have emerged from the scholarship are presented. The complexities of gender challenge the students intellectually and personally. The minor serves as a complement to the student's major field of study, widening the lenses through which they view issues such as political processes, social institutions, historical events, religious phenomena, imaginative activities, and human psychology.
