Students reside in on-campus apartments with American roommates for the duration
of the six-week program. Roommates are Hendrix College students on-campus for summer
research or employment. The apartments have kitchens, communal living spaces, and
bathroom facilities, and are fully furnished, with sheets, blanket, pillow, towel
and shower curtain provided by the English Institute.
Students eat in the Dining Hall in the Student Life and Technology Center. On
occasions when the Dining Hall is closed, students are given a stipend for food
which can be stored and prepared in apartment kitchens. There is a grocery store
located near campus.
Facilities and Activities
- WAC (Wellness and Athletics Center): Features state-of-the-art pool, gym
facilities, courts, climbing wall, and indoor and outdoor tracks.
- Tennis Courts
- Walking trails next to The Village (on the edge of campus)
- Intramural sports (soccer, badminton, etc.)
Each student in the Institute will be assigned to a local “host family,” who
will invite the student to participate in occasional family outings, meals, and
activities. The host family provides students with a home environment and support
as they transition to life in the United States as well as a means for learning
about the Conway local community and American family life.
