Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas, will host its
inaugural Q Camp in summer 2020 from June 14th to June 20th.
The mission of Q Camp is to provide a safe, affirming, and empowering
environment for LGBTQ+ teens and their allies to explore identity, social
justice, and activism. Each day of the week will include course work on LGBTQ+
history and theory, discussions, speakers, and fun community-building
activities. Q Camp will be a fully immersive, unique, and engaging experience for
LGBTQ+ youth that aims to foster:
- Learning of skills and
strategies related to civic engagement, advocacy, and well-being
- Growth of the whole
person with regard to academic, personal, and social development
- Belonging and
awareness of the LGBTQ+ community and resources
- Transformation into
confident young leaders ready to shape the world
- Questioning and open
discussion to deepen understanding of LGBTQ+ studies, identities, and
challenges
The camp will be open to 10th–12th
graders and registration will open on March 4th, 2020.
