CONWAY, Ark. (April
10, 2017) – Hendrix College will host a World Labyrinth Day event on Saturday,
May 6, at 1 p.m. at the campus labyrinth adjacent to Trieschmann Fine Arts
Center near the intersection of Washington and Independence avenues.
The event is free
and open to the public. For more information, contact Hendrix College Chaplain Rev.
J. J. Whitney at 501-450-3801 or whitney@hendrix.edu.
World Labyrinth
Day is sponsored annually by The Labyrinth Society, an international
organization that encourages participants from around the globe to create a
wave of peaceful energy across time zones as they walk labyrinths in their
communities. In 2016, thousands of people walked as one across the United
States and in 24 countries to promote a more peaceful world.
This year’s World
Labyrinth Day theme is “Walk as One at 1:00.” There will be a silent labyrinth
walk following a brief presentation. Hendrix religious studies professor Dr.
Jay McDaniel will provide music.
“This is the
first time that World Labyrinth Day will be celebrated in Conway, and we are
delighted to be hosting it at the labyrinth on our campus,” said Hendrix College
Chaplain Rev. J. J. Whitney.
“The labyrinth is
an ancient symbol and tool for prayer and meditation,” she added. “Walking it
offers a way to quiet the mind and open the heart. It is a path of peace.”
