CONWAY, Ark. (December 8, 2016) – Three Hendrix College
science students and their faculty research mentors received Student
Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF) by the Arkansas Department of Higher
Education (ADHE).
Recipients include:
- Mara Campbell ’19 and Dr. George Harper, Biology
- Brianna LeBoeuf ’19 and Dr.
Laura MacDonald, Biology
- Allison Monroe ’19 and Dr. Matt Moran, Biology
Each
award will receive $2,750 from the ADHE, and Hendrix provides a $1,250 match
for the student stipend portion.
While
Hendrix STEM students accounted for only 5.8 percent of the SURF applicants,
they received 7.2 percent of the available funding, a higher success rate than
other competing institutions for the limited funding available, according to
Hendrix biology professor Dr. George Harper, who attended the award
announcement at the ADHE office in Little Rock.
