Hendrix Trio Receives SURF Awards

CONWAY, Ark. (December 8, 2016) – Three Hendrix College science students and their faculty research mentors received Student Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF) by the Arkansas Department of Higher Education (ADHE).

Recipients include:

  • Mara Campbell ’19 and Dr. George Harper, Biology
  • Brianna LeBoeuf ’19 and Dr. Laura MacDonald, Biology
  • Allison Monroe ’19 and Dr. Matt Moran, Biology

Each award will receive $2,750 from the ADHE, and Hendrix provides a $1,250 match for the student stipend portion.

While Hendrix STEM students accounted for only 5.8 percent of the SURF applicants, they received 7.2 percent of the available funding, a higher success rate than other competing institutions for the limited funding available, according to Hendrix biology professor Dr. George Harper, who attended the award announcement at the ADHE office in Little Rock.
