Hendrix College Chamber Orchestra 2016 Thanksgiving Concert

Thanksgiving concertCONWAY, Ark. (November 8, 2016) – The Hendrix College Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Dr. Karen Griebling, will present its annual Thanksgiving Concert on Monday, Nov. 21, at 7:30 p.m., in Reves Recital Hall.

Arkansas Symphony Orchestra Concertmaster Andrew Irvin will perform the Violin Concerto No. 1 in G Minor by Max Bruch with the orchestra. 

The program will also include: Pyramids from music for Ray Bradbury’s The Halloween Tree by K. Griebling; Classical Symphony (Allegro, Larghetto, Gavotta, and Molto vivace) by Serge Prokofiev; and Fantasy on Greensleeves by Ralph Vaughan-Williams.

The concert, sponsored by the Hendrix College Department of Music, is free and open to the public. No reservations are required. Orchestra musicians will take a collection to benefit Bethlehem House homeless shelter in Conway.

About Andrew Irvin

Arkansas Symphony Orchestra Concertmaster Andrew Irvin has a broad range of experience throughout North America and Europe. His solo appearances include works by Tchaikovsky, Paganini, Bruch, Vivaldi, Korngold, Bach, Mozart, Sarasate, Ravel and Dvorak. Highlights of his chamber music career include performances with the Ying Quartet, the Audubon Quartet, and New York City premiere of composer Steve Mackey's Troubadour Songs. Irvin made his European debut at the Heidelberg Schlossfestspiele, where he was principal violin in the festival orchestra and was featured on the chamber concert series. Before moving to Arkansas, he was principal violin in the Arizona Opera Orchestra.
