CONWAY, Ark. (October 31, 2016) – Ten
Hendrix College students recently attended the Arkansas INBRE Research
Conference in Fayetteville.
“The Hendrix students
made a very strong showing at this meeting, which is a reflection of the hard
work and high quality research that is carried out on campus during the summer
and academic year,” said Hendrix biology professor Dr. Andrew
Schurko, who accompanied the students, along with biology professors
Dr. Brenda Houck, Dr. Laura MacDonald, and Dr. Richard Murray, and chemistry professor
Dr. Andres Caro.

Gilbreath (from Dr. Murray’s lab) and Sharabura (from
Dr. MacDonald’s lab), both biochemistry and molecular biology majors, gave oral
presentations on their research in the Biology Department.
Matson, a physics major, gave a talk from his
summer research at the University of Arkansas.
Huber was awarded second place in the Biological
Sciences category for her poster “Transcriptome Analysis Reveals a Message
During DNA Repair in Bdelloid Rotifers.”
Matson was awarded
second place in the Physics category for his talk “Anisotropic Differential Reflectance Spectroscopy of Thin GeSe.”
Anderson (from Dr. Caro’s lab), Gibson, LeBoeuf
and Young (from Dr. Macdonald’s lab), and Ebijoyeldhas, Huber and McReynolds (from
Dr. Schurko’s Lab) also presented posters of their research at the conference.
