Hendrix Staff Awards 2016

_MG_3419CONWAY, Ark. (May 27, 2016) —Hendrix College staff were recognized today at a special event on campus.

“Our success wouldn’t happen without you and the work you do, day in and day out, to make Hendrix such a special place,” said Hendrix President Bill Tsutsui. “Nothing makes me happier than when parents and visitors tell me how blown away they were with Hendrix and all of the friendly folks they met here. So whether you kept the campus safe or spotless, or kept the heat on the students to apply and send in their deposit, or kept the peace among students, faculty, or your colleagues, thank you.”

Master Electrician Charles Coker from Facilities Management and Assistant Director of Residence Life Holly Nelson from Student Affairs were the recipients of the “Indi” Award for a staff member who, by his or her service, has proven to be an indispensable member of, and contributor to, the Hendrix community.

Coker’s nominator said, “He does so many things that we don’t even know about – he just takes care of business, often before we even know it needs to be done.”

And while Nelson has been indispensable for several years, according to her nominator, this year she was even more so, as she stepped into the role of Conduct Administrator while Kesha Baoua was on maternity leave.

The A. C. Millar Innovator Award, given to a staff member who champions new and innovative ideas to make Hendrix better, was given to Jamie Groat, Employment Connections Coordinator in the Office of Graduate School and Employment Connections.

Groat was nominated for making the annual career fair into a vibrant event that employers want to attend and where students can find jobs.

The award is named for Hendrix College President A. C. Millar, who was instrumental in moving the College from Altus to Conway in 1890.

Earlier in the semester, the Hendrix Student Senate recognized Debbie Lipscomb and Robert Sturgeon with the John Paulette Unsung Hero Award, which is presented to a staff member who has had an impact on students at Hendrix.

“Hendrix just wouldn’t be the same without folks like these Unsung Heroes, who go about their work quietly and make everyone’s lives a lot better and a lot easier,” said Tsutsui.
