CONWAY, Ark. (May 9, 2016) —Hendrix College senior Annie Criswell ’16 was the first prize ($500) winner in the
Poets’ Roundtable of Arkansas 2016 statewide Collegiate Poetry Contest for her poem “Rocks in the Riverbed.”
A Conway native, Criswell, an English major, spent a semester studying literature at Oxford University in the United Kingdom. At Hendrix, she was involved in the The Aonian literary magazine and Word Garden student reading series. She also volunteers at the local animal shelter.
Founded in 1931, Poets’ Roundtable of Arkansas is the oldest poetry organization in the state. It was established to encourage poets and poetry throughout the state.
The 2016 collegiate poetry contest was its first statewide effort to reach college students.
