CONWAY, Ark. (April 4, 2016) – Senior art majors show their art work Monday, April 11-Saturday May 14, in Triechmann.
Art majors Marissa Earles ’16, Kate Engler ’16, Hannah Gallegos ’16, Kim Ly ’16, Lucy Morgan ’16, Carl Napolitano ’16, Grace Oxley ’16, and Austin Phillips
’16, and Anna Sheals ’16 will display their art in Trieschmann Gallery from April 11-May 14 in a show titled “New Artifacts.” Their works include sculpture, photography, painting, drawing, and video.
Some of the pieces are Marissa Earles’ work, “Line,” which is made from an old piano and walnut wood; Kate Engler’s sculptures for her installation during which two videos, “Doll House” and “2 Daniel” play alternately; Grace Oxley’s photographic project,
which includes “Marshall, Arkansas no. 2,” is a documentation of enigmatic or confrontation road signs on Arkansas' highways and interstates; Austin Phillips’ "The Art of the Catch" 2015, is a collage of 130 photos of hand tied flies toned in a variety of ways; Anna Sheals’ work, “Message,” a charcoal
drawing of an iris that represents the idea that every flower carries a hidden meaning understood only by those who speak the language of flowers. It was inspired by Vanessa Diffenbaugh's novel “The Language of Flowers” and is the starting point for a 12-foot mixed media
installation emphasizing the beauty of typographic forms and the symbolic meaning of flowers; and Kim Ly’s piece, “Ong
Noi's Death Anniversary,” is a mixed-media collage that focuses on her
personal, transnational experiences between Vietnam and the U.S. and explores
how death is portrayed through contrasting religions, symbolic animals, and
family ghosts.
