CONWAY, Ark. (March 28, 2016) – Hendrix College senior Jacob Pierce ’16 recently received an Outstanding Talk
Award in the undergraduate students category at the 23rd Annual Southeastern
Regional Yeast Meeting at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
Pierce, a biochemistry and molecular biology
major from Fulton, Missouri, presented his talk titled "Charged residues
located on a small region on the side of the nucleosome contribute to proper
interactions between the transcription elongation factor Spt16 and transcribed
genes in S. cerevisiae."
"Jacob did a great job
presenting his research at this meeting. After his presentation, many people,
including several Principal Investigators, told me how impressed they were by
both the quality of the results he presented and how well he delivered the talk,”
said Hendrix biology professor Dr. Andrea Duina, who accompanied Pierce to the
meeting. “Jacob is an outstanding student and researcher, and I am very happy
that he received this recognition by the coordinators of this conference."
Pierce and two other Hendrix students, Alex Crocker ’15 and Catey
May ’16, also received Student Travel Awards from the conference organizers to
support their participation at the meeting.
