Hendrix Controller, Student Accounts Director to Present at NACUBO Conference

Mathis, Shawn - 20101006 - 13435886 Simon, Chris - 20131021 - 09223705CONWAY, Ark. (February 15, 2016) – Hendrix College Associate Vice President for Finance Shawn Mathis and Chris Simon, Director of Student Accounts, will present “Student Retention from a Financial Perspective and Beyond” at the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) 2016 Student Financial Services Conference in Memphis, Tennessee.

Mathis and Simon will share how the Hendrix Business Office looks at retention data, along with info on academic success, athletic involvement, and social life on campus, to target retention risks and to be more proactive in keeping students through graduation.

“Retention efforts should not be limited to one department on campus,” said Mathis. “Retention is a campus-wide effort, and we are trying to show others how the Business Office can play a key part in that effort with the information that is available.”

"If any of this data can lead to efforts that would assist at least one student obtaining his or her college degree, it will all be worth it," said Simon.

For the past 10 years, the average four-year graduation rate at Hendrix is 63 percent, more than twice the national average for public, four-year institutions (26 percent) and more than three times the average at public, four-year institutions in Arkansas (18 percent).

Their presentation was also selected for live streaming to provide access to content to institutions that are not able to attend due to travel restrictions and/or budgetary restrictions.
