CONWAY, Ark. (February 8, 2016) –
The Hendrix College community is saddened by the loss of Betty J. Courtway.
Active in athletics, community
service, and education, she was the wife of longtime Hendrix administrator and
coach Bob Courtway.
This fall, she was honored by
the Hendrix College Sports Hall of Honor for her meritorious service to the
Hendrix community. She helped her husband run more than 180 swim meets,
including 20 AIC championships and an NAIA championship, and she helped AAU
Junior Olympic, high school and other swim meets throughout the state. Courtway
also taught tennis lessons. During holidays and breaks, Courtway would open up
her home near the College, providing meals for students who were still on
campus.
