Student Literary Magazine Wins First Place at Southern Literary Festival Contest

CONWAY, Ark. (February 4, 2016) – The Hendrix College student literary magazine the Aonian recently won first place for literary magazine in the 2016 Southern Literary Festival Undergraduate Writing Contest.

“The Aonian strives to provide a place where Hendrix students’ best creative work, whether it is literary or visual art, can be recognized and shared with the rest of our campus and further foster our diverse creative community,” said Hendrix senior Carl Napolitano ’16, who served as last year’s Aonian editor-in-chief. “Because the magazine is funded through student senate and is entirely student run in addition to publishing exclusively student work, it truly is a collective effort of our student body and I'm really proud and happy to have all that hard work recognized.”

“The Aonian is a window into the extraordinary creative work being produced by Hendrix students in both the visual and literary arts,” said English professor Jessica Jacobs, who served as last year's faculty advisor and is the Hendrix-Murphy Writer-in-Residence at Hendrix. “And this most recent issue of the Aonian is especially impressive in both its content and form, something of which the staff and Carl Napolitano, their fearless leader, should be especially proud.”
