Hendrix Junior Wins Public Policy and International Affairs (PPIA) Fellowship

CONWAY, Ark. (February 4, 2016) – Hendrix College student Chirag Lala ’17 recently received a Public Policy & International Affairs (PPIA) fellowship to study statistics, mathematical economics, and policy analysis for seven weeks this summer at the PPIA Junior Summer Institute at the University of Michigan. The fellowship pays all expenses plus a stipend.

"I was incredibly honored to receive the PPIA Fellowship. Public Service, to me, has always been about using my academic background to affect change by advising and assisting the institutions of state,” said Lala, an international relations and economics double major from Little Rock, Arkansas. He is studying in Brussels, Belgium, this semester. “The PPIA opens a door to that possibility. It is a humbling opportunity, one I could not have received without the support of my professors, my adviser, and the mentors I look up to among my family and friends."

“The PPIA is an unbelievably competitive fellowship. It is a testament to Chirag’s outstanding talents and capabilities, and PPIA is getting in Chirag a student whose commitment to public service is enormous. It’s just as much a win for the PPIA program as it is for Chirag,” said Hendrix professor Dr. Daniel J. Whelan, chair of the College’s Politics and International Relations Department.
