CONWAY, Ark. (June 12, 2015) –
One hundred and two Hendrix College students are getting a glimpse of life
after graduation through summer internships.
There are 55 Hendrix students
who are interning at sites in Arkansas. Student interns are also working in 21
other states and the District of Columbia, and there are three international
internships on four continents this summer.
“A summer internship provides
a chance for students to ‘try on’ a career field of choice with hands-on,
real-world work experience,” said Leigh Lassiter-Counts, Director of Career
Discovery and Internships. “Without the burden of classwork and studying,
summer interns really get the freedom to explore a job field head on, immerse
themselves in the world of work, and come out of the experience with some great
perspectives on both their future and their remaining time at Hendrix.”
“A summer internship can help
students gain incredible perspective on the real world of work and what a
career might hold for them in the future; perspective on their time left at
Hendrix to embrace or possibly change their major to more align with what they
experienced as an intern; and to get involved in clubs, service or leadership
opportunities they might not have sought out before,” she added. “Students who
complete internships find that they are not only better prepared and have more
clarity about their life after Hendrix, but also they are more confident going
forward during their time at Hendrix, choosing extracurricular activities,
campus work and research opportunities that build upon their internships and
help prepare them even more for the future.”
