Hendrix to Produce World Premiere of Play by Lee Blessing

CONWAY, Ark. (February 24, 2014) – The Hendrix College Department of Theatre Arts and Dance will produce the world premiere of The Hourglass Project, a play by Lee Blessing originally commissioned through the Hendrix-Murphy Foundation Programs in Literature and Language and directed by Hendrix theatre professor Ann Muse, Wednesday, March 5 – Friday, March 7, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, March 8, at 2 p.m. in Cabe Theatre.

The Hourglass Project is “a speculative comedy about the future,” according to Blessing, and finds a wealthy couple experimenting on an indigent and elderly group to discover the fountain of youth through regenerative gene research.

An acclaimed playwright, Lee Blessing's plays have premiered at the Manhattan Theatre Club, the La Jolla Playhouse, Yale Repertory Theater and the Actors Theater of Louisville among others and have been performed at the O'Neill Playwrights Conference in six different summers. His plays have been nominated for Tony and Olivier Awards, as well as the Pulitzer Prize, and have won the American Theater Critics Award and the George and Elisabeth Marton Award. Eleemosynary won the 1997 L.A. Drama Critics Circle Award. Blessing has received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, as well as the Guggenheim, Bush, McKnight and Jerome Foundations.

The Hendrix-Murphy Foundation Programs in Literature and Language are designed to enhance and enrich the study and teaching of literature and language at Hendrix College.
