Choir Brings Candlelight Carol Service to Springdale and Little Rock

CONWAY, Ark. (November 22, 2013) – The Hendrix College Choir, under the direction of Dr. Nancy Fleming, will present two special tour performances of the annual Candlelight Carol Service.

The choir will perform on Thursday, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m., at First United Methodist Church in Springdale, Ark. For more information, contact music director Kerry Johnston at 479-751-4610.

The choir will perform on Friday, Dec. 20, at 7:30 p.m., at Trinity United Methodist Church in Little Rock, Ark. For more information, contact music director David Glaze at 501-666-4610.

The program will include:

  • If You Would Hear (Dutch carol adapted by Ralph Vaughan Williams and Martin Shaw)
  • Adam lay ybounden by Frank Boles 
  • God is with us by John Tavener 
  • And the glory of the Lord (from Messiah) by George Frideric Handel
  • Ave maris stella by Javier Busto 
  • O magnum mysterium by Nancy Galbraith 
  • The Kings and the Shepherds by Daniel Pinkham
  • The Virgin Mary had a baby boy (West Indian carol arranged by John Leavitt)
  • WZlobie Lezy (Polish carol arranged by Roger Ames)
  • Nunc dimittis in A by Charles Villiers Stanford 
  • Once in Royal David’s City and familiar hymns of the season

The Hendrix Choir will perform the Candlelight Carol Service on campus on Thursday, Dec. 5 – Saturday, Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 4 p.m. in Greene Chapel. The campus services are free and open to the public but reservations are required. Reservations can be made by calling 501-450-1495 on Monday, Nov. 25 and Tuesday, Nov. 26 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Monday, Dec. 2 – Friday, Dec. 6 from noon – 2 p.m.
