Profile Picked for National Press Award

CONWAY, Ark. (November 5, 2013) – The Profile, the Hendrix student news source, was recently named one of the country’s top 10 college student feature magazines at the Associated Collegiate Press National College Media Convention in New Orleans, La.

"This recognition means a lot to The Profile because it serves to reinforce our goal for the publication of being a credible source of news and other stories both within and outside of the Hendrix community,” said editor James Owen, a sophomore from Hot Springs, Ark. “In a greater sense, earning Best of Show recognition at a national level is proof of the hard work and countless hours that our staff has put into building The Profile into a great publication.”

"One of our goals for The Profile this year has been to reach out to the community. We thought if we attended a national conference, we would be more prepared to get our publication out there. Also, we know how awesome our staff is this year so we definitely wanted to enter Best of Show,” said managing editor Grace Oxley, a sophomore from Bryant, Ark. “We're very appreciative of Student Senate allotting us funds so that we could purchase membership with The Associated Collegiate Press. Their support allowed us to enter the contest."

Other institutions in the top 10 feature magazine category were California Baptist University, Drake University School of Journalism, Elon University, Kent State University, Los Angeles City College, Louisiana State University, University of Miami, University of North Florida, and University of Texas Pan American.
