Economic Printing: double sided printing and multiple sheets per page

Did you know that when it comes to ink and toner, Century Gothic is justifiably one of the most economical fonts? It uses about 30 percent less ink than Arial.

Another great way to print economically is to set documents to print double-sided, or set multiple pages to print on each sheet of paper. This can cut down on excess paper when printing Word documents, PowerPoints, or PDFs. To learn how to print double-sided and/or with multiple pages per sheet, see below.

Double-Sided Printing (Windows)

  • From the document you wish to print (in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, etc.), click on Print. This will open the Print Menu.
  • In this new menu, click on Properties.
  • In the Printing Shortcuts tab, there is the option to Print on Both Sides. Make sure it says “Yes, flip over” and click OK.
    • You can also change this setting under the Finishing tab by checking Print on Both Sides.
  • You can also change your printer preferences in the Devices and Printers menu (found in the start bar under Control Panel or within the Control Panel window).
    • Locate your printer in the Devices and Printers window and right-click. Choose Printing Preferences. This will open the same Print Menu as mentioned above.

Double-Sided Printing (Mac)

  • When in the document you want to print (in Microsoft Word, for example), click on File and then Print.
  • When in the Print menu, click on the Copies and Pages drop-down menu and click on Layout.
  • Go to where it says Two Sided, and make sure it says Long-Edge Binding, then click Print.

Printing Multiple Pages on One Sheet (Windows)

  • From within the Print Menu (as described above), look for the menu option to allow multiple pages per sheet. In Microsoft Word, it is Pages per Sheet under Zoom. In PowerPoint, it is Full Page Slides under Settings. In Adobe, it is Multiple pages per sheet under Page Scaling.
    • In these menus, you will be able to choose how many pages or slides appear per sheet. Keep in mind that the more pages are printed per sheet, the smaller the text size will be!

Printing Multiple Pages on One Sheet (Mac)

  • From within the Print Menu (as described above), look for the menu option to allow multiple pages per sheet. In Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, it is within the Copies and Pages drop-down menu under Layout. There you can choose Pages per Sheet. In Adobe Reader, under the Page Handling section of the Print menu, there is a Page Scaling section where you can choose to print Multiple pages per sheet.
    • In these menus, you will be able to choose how many pages or slides appear per sheet. Keep in mind that the more pages are printed per sheet, the smaller the text size will be!
