Students from 26 high schools across
the state of Arkansas will gather for a day of music making under the direction
of Dr. Gretchen Renshaw, Hendrix College's Director of Bands. The festival will
culminate in the Festival of Winds Honor Band Concert. The first half of the
concert features the Hendrix College Wind Ensemble performing works by Brian
Balmages, Steven Reineke, and Percy Grainger. The Honor Band will perform on
the second half of the concert with works by John Mackey, David Biedenbender,
and Ola Gjeilo. The program will end with Dmitri Shostakovich's "Folk
Dance," which will be performed by the combined forces of the Hendrix
College Wind Ensemble and the Festival of Winds Honor Band.
