Most of the Moore presentation addressed external communications. Ms. Moore should be commended for doing such a good job in this area. Some schools tend to unravel, however, from the inside out. Name some specific internal communication strategies that you can use at Charterville. I'll begin by suggesting the idea of having a quarterly "State of the School" address to the faculty and parents. Some leaders tend to forget to keep key people informed, and key people need to know about the "state" of the organization.

Internal communications usually begins with the publication of the instructional leaders expectations to the staff. There is also a faculty handbook, a daily bulletin, weekly meetings with departments/content area teachers, if you are fortunate to have an assistant, meet daily just as a matter of course or routine. Monthly faculty meeting are conducted as a regular scheduled routine with emergency meetings held as necessary. Post accomplishments or announcements for the staff in the staff lounge, establish a teacher mailbox and work room. Meet individually with teachers at least once a month just to chew the fat. Celebrate accomplishments and award faculty with monthly awards.

Oh, I left out the parents. Establish a campus leadership team that has a community or business representative, parent representative, if possible a local community leader, a faculty and staff member, and yourself to meet at least quarterly if not monthly. Establish a student council. And lastly attend city board and local school board meetings.
