Current projects

I am a Radiologist who specializes in breast imaging. I interpret mammograms, conduct breast ultrasound examinations, interpret breast MRI studies, and perform image-guided breast interventional procedures. I am also an Epidemiologist who studies the frequency, distribution and risk factors associated with breast cancer.

Undergraduate Research

While I worked with Dr. Goodwin on many projects throughout the academic year and during two summers, the most interesting project was assisting in the development of an elephant breeding program at Riddle's Elephant and Wildlife Sanctuary. By measuring the progesterone levels of female elephants we were able to predict the optimum time for breeding.

How Hendrix prepared me for success

My love of research was born at Hendrix. Hendrix gave me the opportunity to go beyond learning in the classroom to discovering in the laboratory and presenting those findings at national scientific meetings.

Future plans

My future research includes new imaging methods for the early detection of breast cancer and identifying, understanding, and eliminating the factors associated with the unequal burden of breast cancer in our society.

My advice

I would advise students to seek out one of the great mentors at Hendrix. For me it was Dr. Goodwin. His enthusiasm for learning was infectious and I loved working with him.
