Hubbard Street 2 Dance Company at Hendrix

CONWAY, Ark. (November 11, 2011) — Dance company, Hubbard Street 2, performed on Monday, Nov. 7 in Staples Auditorium on the Hendrix College campus.

The group performed a beautiful concert “with strong choreography, technique and all technical elements combined,” according to Brigitte Rogers, visiting assistant professor of dance, who helped bring the group to Hendrix. A discussion followed the performance.

The dance company also participated in an interactive master class Monday afternoon with students. During the class, ballet technique was taught through movement sequences and a discussion on imagery.

Hubbard Street 2 (HS2) was formed in 1997 to prepare dancers ages 18-25 for the life of a professional dancer in a contemporary company. Currently lead by Taryn Kaschock Russell, HS2 provides talented young dancers with a chance to develop their professional experience. HS2 dancers are notorious for their athleticism and fearless dancing. The company’s six dancers reach over 60,000 people annually by performing nationally and internationally. To date, 17 dancers have advanced to the main company, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, and many more have joined other national and international companies.

The event was sponsored by the Hendrix Special Events Programs in the Fine and Performing Arts. Each year, Hendrix Special Events presents a variety of special artists and performances. These performances are offered free to the campus community and to the public.
