Computer Science and Mathematics major

Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Stony Brook University (State University of New York) in Stony Brook, New York.

Current projects

This is primarily a research school. I am establishing/leading a computer systems research lab. My research interests include Operating Systems, Concurrent Programming, Security, Architecture, Virtualization, and Compilers.

Undergraduate Research

I did an NSF REU at Hope College, and a senior thesis project. I also interned at a prototyping team at Acxiom (where I subsequently worked for 2 years after graduation).

How Hendrix prepared me for success

More than anything, the breadth of experience and liberal arts studies have helped me recently. Being conversant in a range of topics helps me connect with people, whether teaching, collaborating on a project, or presenting research.

Future plans

I'm in my first year as a new faculty member. My goal is to teach students to think creatively about designing the next generations of computers, and hopefully to build some interesting systems myself. I have a particular interest in contributing to programs that benefited me as an undergraduate. I would like to start an NSF REU program at Stony Brook, and find other ways to invite students from teaching colleges that might want to go to graduate school to have first-hand experience in a research lab.
