"#1 up-and-coming liberal arts college"
U.S. News & World Report,
Best Colleges 2015
Why is Hendrix #1 on U.S. News & World Report's list of the nation's
up-and-coming liberal arts colleges? U.S. News asked presidents, provosts,
and admission deans at other national liberal arts colleges to nominate up to 10
peer colleges "that are making improvements in academics, faculty, students, campus
life, diversity, and facilities." Hendrix has been among these schools "worth watching
because they are making promising and innovative changes" for seven consecutive
years.
Why Hendrix Stands Out
Class Act
U.S. News & World Report also ranked Hendrix #8 among an elite group
of national liberal arts colleges for best undergraduate teaching. With an average
class size of 17 students and an 11:1 student-to-faculty ratio, Hendrix believes
that nothing is more important than what students and professors do inside the classroom.
Your Odyssey
We pioneered engaged liberal arts education with
Your
Hendrix Odyssey. Odyssey connects the classroom with the world as
students complete hands-on learning experiences, such as internships, international
study, undergraduate research and service. With your Odyssey experiences described
in your transcript, you can successfully show what you've learned to prospective
graduate schools or potential employers.
Your Brave New World
All new students take two common classes. The Engaged Citizen (TEC) will
vividly illustrate what happens when you ask professors from different departments
(Spanish and physics, for example) to create courses that connect their fields of
study and include a hands-on learning experience. Seeing the world from two different
perspectives really opens your eyes – and opens your world. Explorations
will introduce you to the resources available to you at Hendrix.
LEED-ership
The Student Life and Technology Center blends high-tech learning spaces with
social, recreational and student services space. It is also the first Gold-level
LEED-certified building on a college campus in Arkansas and a symbol of the College's
commitment to the environment.
Welcome To Your Own College Town
A New Urban-style community next door to Hendrix brings the convenience of downtown
living to the College's doorstep: The Village at Hendrix. Along with residential
homes, there are three mixed-use buildings that surround the Village Green with
shops and restaurants on the bottom floors. Students live on the upper floors and
enjoy the walking trails that run through the Hendrix Creek Preserve, which also
serves as a laboratory for studying the Arkansas ecosystem.
