Burn Out Macbeth at the Edinburgh Festival

So, We've been in Scotland for 5 days now. It has been amazing. Rainy but amazing. It seems like we've been here a lot longer than just 5 days. I think that's a good thing. We have performed three times already - one preview show and two others. So far we have had great audiences. Burn Out seems to be well recieved by the Scots.

Saw a really amazing show this afternoon. It was a one woman show called "Obsessions and Confessions of a Thirty-something Divorcee." The actress was also the writer. I found it both entertaining on a comedic level and intriguing with its message about life as a female. That's the great thing about all the shows at the Fringe - they all have something to "say."

I'll have more to report on later but it's time to get ready to head back out in the rain and to another show.

It's Wednesday--we only have two days of rehearsal left! I honestly feel we're in a good place though. Tension is high because we're coming down to the line, but I don't think we should let that cloud our minds. We've got this. Each one of us has our own individual, amazing talents. We feed off of each other beautifully, and we're going to have to do that outside of acting, as well. I really love how we are all so different, and how each of us contributes something special to the group.

The shrunken heads are drying in the shop. I'm about to grab Junia and go down there to finish up. I'll be taking a lot of deep breaths today. I've been making sure to get at least an hour of serious exercise in every day. Taking care of our bodies has to be our #1 priority.

Week Two Update Ya'll....

Hey ya'll this is Michael and Justin here...aka....Porter Macduff and Pappy MacBeth,

Justin and I think that its been really great so far. We have a full script and we all are really growing within our characters. The play is definetely coming along. I really feel like that we all had a part in this script and process and I am really proud of the work that we put in. We have the sound finished thanks to Danny and Justin. The props are looking good thanks to Sarah, Junia, and Danny. And the costume are looking nasty....in a good way....thanks to Connie. We leave in 3 days and Ithink that we are ready to take Scottland.

Michael and I are so grateful for this opportunity and we are really proud of what we are doing. We all know how blessed we are to have the opportunity to go abroad, and hopefully the Scots are ready for something "baller." More to come soon.

It has been exactly one week since we began working on Burn Out. We have accomplished so much. We have a script. Everyone has their part. Costumes, props, blocking, bubba teeth... yes bubba teeth... everything is coming together. Sure, there is still a lot to work on but I feel like we are in really good shape. It's so exciting to go through the process of producing a play like this in total overdrive. One week has gone by and we have a show that I am proud to say is a true collaboration between all the minds involved: the faculty and the students. Can't wait to see what else we can do with this!

Just Around the Corner!

Hey Everyone! Junia here! Our journey to Scotland is just around the corner! It seemed to really sneak up on us, but I believe that with everyone's hard work and effort, we will have a smashing performance to enlighten people from all around the world. I am looking forward to spending time with all of you again. We are not only going to "Wow" everyone there, but we will also have an awesome time just hanging out in one of the coolest places in the world! I don't know about you all, but I am jumping out of my skin from excitement. Enjoy these last few days of summer because we have a lot of hard work ahead of us. Just like the little farmer guy here is pointing at...Scotland is just around the corner!

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is held in Edinburgh, Scotland where thousands upon thousands of people from all over the world come to perform and watch performances all over the city. It started in 1947 and is still going strong. This upcoming year, the Hendrix Murphy Program and the Hendrix Theatre department are sending a group of students over to this world-wide festival to perform "Burn Out Macbeth: A Southern Gothic Tale" to entertain tourists with their sense of ethnicity to Arkansas.
