Guide to Academic Planning 2018-2019

Neuroscience

Working closely with their advisors, the neuroscience major prepares students with a competent interdisciplinary undergraduate foundation for graduate studies in a variety of fields. Since these graduate programs have different requirements, the neuroscience students should work closely with their advisors in choosing their electives.

Course Planning

Entering students who know they want to major in neuroscience should take BIOL 150 Cell Biology and either CHEM 110 General Chemistry I or CHEM 150 Accelerated General Chemistry in their first year. See the example schedule below.

Entering students who know they want to major in neuroscience and are pre-Med or plan to do graduate work in neurobiology should take BIOL 150 Cell Biology and either CHEM 110 General Chemistry and CHEM 120 General Chemistry II or CHEM 150 Accelerated General Chemistry in their first year.

Since BIOL 325 Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience and BIOL 425 Systems Neuroscience are offered every other year, students should take them when taught in their junior or senior year.
