Graduation with Departmental Distinction

Criteria for Graduation with Departmental Distinction in Sociology:

  1. A 3.0 or above in overall grade point average
  2. A 3.5 or above in grade point average in departmental courses and other courses required for the sociology/anthropology major
  3. Superior performance on an independent study project directed by departmental faculty and/or superior performance in Advanced Research/Practicum (Soc/Anth 497)
  4. Favorable recommendation from departmental faculty
  5. Other criteria considered:
    1. performance on the senior thesis (emphasis in sociology) or the comprehensive examination (emphasis in anthropology)
    2. extracurricular activities, e.g., giving a presentation at the Arkansas Undergraduate Sociology and Anthropology Symposium or similar conference and active participation in the Sociology/Anthropology Club
    3. recommendations of non-departmental faculty
  • Hendrix graduates who immediately enter the job market obtain employment within 6 months of graduation.
