Frequently Asked Questions

Have some questions about Residence Life at Hendrix College? Here you will find a few commonly asked questions about living in the residence halls. Just click on a topic to learn more. If you still have questions, you can contact us at housing@hendrix.edu.

Can I squat my temp space?

No, but you will be able to choose after squatters and before everyone else.

After I’ve gone through the Process, can I change my mind?

You will lose the option to squat your room if you do not squat on Squatters’ Day because the room may be claimed by the time your draw number comes up on a subsequent day. You cannot reclaim your right to it.

Conversely, if you squat your room and then later change your mind and want to move elsewhere, you may get on a waiting list. After the room selection process is complete, if there is space available, we will re-assign rooms in draw number order.

My friends have received a draw number, why haven’t I?

Draw numbers will be emailed to you on March 16, 2009. Contact the Residence Life Office immediately if you didn’t receive one and think that you should have. There’s probably a very simple explanation (financial hold or super senior status).

If you have been suspended or removed from on-campus housing and that status extends into the next academic year or beyond you are ineligible for any assignment.

I don’t want a roommate. I want a Double as a Single

Due to limited space, we cannot grant requests for doubles as singles at the beginning of the year.

What if I can’t find a roommate?

There will be several opportunities to find a roommate: On-Line Roommate Match-Up and in line at the Process itself. If you still can’t find one, we will assign you one. It is to your advantage to find a roommate on your own.

The On-line Roommate Match-Up is now open!  If you are in need of a roommate, please complete the questionnaire at the following link:  http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=wDvHfNDSpIx1KpuWAM1tJQ_3d_3d

I am SO confused!

Ask for assistance from any member of the Residence Life staff if you are unclear about the process. You may also come by Buhler 105 Monday-Friday, 8-5. We will be happy to assist you.

What if I arrive late for my scheduled Room Selection date and time?

You are required to arrive on time on the date of your Room Selection. Should you arrive late we will still serve you but you’ll have lost the advantage of your draw number.

Where and when will Room Selection Process be held?

The fall 2009 Room Selection Process will take place in Hulen Ballroom on:

Monday, March 23rd for squatters

Thursday, March 26th for selecting apartments

Tuesday, April 7th for selecting traditional halls and houses

I know what day to come to the Room Selection Process, but what time do I show up?

Following are the appointed times for draw numbers on Room Selection nights. There is no reason to show up hours before your time, but do NOT be late.
