Religious Life Overview

Hendrix College understands that spiritual growth, theological exploration, and the growing expression of one's religious faith are central components of the college experience. Hendrix offers students and faculty a broad range of opportunities for religious study and practice.

Religious life programming is administered by the Religious Life Council, a student group advised by the Chaplain. Ministries offered to Hendrix students through the Religious Life Council and the Office of Chaplain include:

• Campus Worship Services are held each Monday night at 7:00 p.m. in Greene Chapel. Services are led by students, with the Chaplains preaching.
• Communion is celebrated in Greene Chapel each Tuesday at 4:15 p.m.
• Fellowship is every Thursday at 5:40p.m. in the SLTC Worsham Performance Hall (Student Life and Technology Center)  Come hang out and enjoy a home cooked meal.
• Greene Chapel is open for prayer each day. In addition, the Prayer Room outside of Greene Chapel is available for private prayer.
• Spiritual Life Events are planned by the Religious Life Council each term.
• Fellowship Teams of students visit churches in Arkansas to lead Sunday worship, offer dramatic presentations and Christian music, assist with special programs for children, and lead lock-ins and retreats for youth.
• Exploring Ministry Together (EMT), is a group of students who feel that they have been called into ministry in some way.  The group includes those who want to preach, work with youth, children, families etc.  If you feel that God is calling you to be in the ministry in some way, shape or form, please contact Rev. JJ Whitney or Rev. Wayne Clark.  Meetings take place every Monday night at 8:00 p.m. in the Miller Center, SLTC 133.
• The Marshall T. Steel Center for the Study of Religion and Philosophy promotes the study of religion and philosophy on the Hendrix campus. Activities include:
  • Lectures that bring to Hendrix noted speakers and scholars to address issues of public interest or concern.
  • Workshops that provide occasions for small groups to work intensely on specific issues of common interest.
  • Friday Afternoon Discussions that bring students and faculty together, often with an outside presenter, to discuss issues of common interest. The discussions are held each Friday in the Raney Building, and are open to the public.
