Now Featuring: Boy Gets Girl

CONWAY, Ark. (April 10, 2009) – The Hendrix Players will present Boy Gets Girl on Wednesday, April 15 through Saturday, April 18 at 7:30 p.m. in Cabe Theatre, on the Hendrix College campus. An additional matinee will be presented Saturday at 2 p.m. The production is free and open to the public but reservations are required. For reservations, call the box office at (501) 450-1343.

Boy Gets Girl, written by Rebecca Gilman, revolves around Theresa Bedell, a successful reporter in New York who loves her work and the life she has made for herself. Theresa feels that a relationship with a man would complete the picture and agrees to go on a blind date with attractive and funny Tony. When things don’t work out, Theresa's annoyance with Tony turns to terror. The story calls into question the assumptions at the very heart of romantic pursuit.

The Hendrix Players met playwright Rebecca Gilman in February during a 10-minute play festival sponsored by the Hendrix College Department of Theatre and Dance and the Hendrix-Murphy Foundation. During the visit, the students had the opportunity to discuss the play with Gilman.

The performance, a senior seminar production, is the capstone experience for theatre arts majors at Hendrix College where students create a theatre company and produce a play in their final semester. Students are responsible for every aspect of the production including: set and light design, properties, sound, media projections, costumes, and directing.

Theatre students not participating in the seminar class serve as actors; members of the light, sound, media, and properties crews; assistant stage managers; costume and make-up crew; and the set building crew. Past productions of the senior seminar include The Pretentious Young Ladies, Big Love, and The Last Days of Judas Iscariot.

The Hendrix Players are celebrating their 31st season. For more information, visit www.hendrix.edu/theatrearts.

The play contains adult themes, language and situations and may not be suitable for all audiences.

Hendrix, founded in 1876, is a selective, residential, undergraduate liberal arts college emphasizing experiential learning in a demanding yet supportive environment. The college is among 165 colleges featured in the 2009 edition of the Princeton Review America’s Best Value Colleges. Hendrix has been affiliated with the United Methodist Church since 1884.
