Hundreds of Hendrix alumni returning

CONWAY, ARK. (March 11, 2009) – Hundreds of Hendrix College alumni will be returning for the college’s annual Alumni Weekend festivities and will help celebrate the 60th anniversary of Campus Kitty, a student-led organization that has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for Faulkner County charities.

Alumni and friends of the college are expected to return to campus from April 3-5 and will celebrate the accomplishments of Campus Kitty, including a student and alumni art show and sale, a silent auction to benefit Campus Kitty, and a celebration to honor those who worked with the organization for the past six decades. Additionally, students associated with Campus Kitty will host a carnival for area children on April 4 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. with proceeds to benefit current fundraising efforts.

Hendrix’s current students have a goal of raising $45,000 to benefit local charities this year after raising more than $42,000 last year. In comparison, the first class who organized Campus Kitty in 1949 raised $600 for local charities.

Those local charities benefiting from Campus Kitty this year include: Arkansas Rice Depot, Beacon Community Project, Bethlehem House, Big Brothers, Big Sisters; Boys & Girls Club; CASA; Camp Aldersgate; Children’s Hospital; Community Service, Inc.; Conway Cradle Care; Conway Interfaith Clinic; Faulkner County Senior Citizens Center; Creative Living Services; Daily Bread; Faulkner County Day School; Faulkner County Literacy Council; Florence Crittenton Family Ministries; HAVEN House; Humane Society of Faulkner County; Mile Stones; Miracle League; Pine Street Free Clinic; the Ronald McDonald House; Soul Food Café; and Stewpot Soup Kitchen and Clothing Closet Women’s Shelter of Central Arkansas.
