My name is Michelle, I am in my second semester as a junior at Hendrix College. I am majoring in International Relations and before going abroad through the Hendrix-in-Heilongjiang program, I took four semesters of Chinese language classes at Hendrix. Initially, I decided to study abroad in China because I would like a career in international business and China seemed like a practical choice, especially as the Chinese economy and the American economy continue to become more interdependent. I am also fascinated by Chinese language and culture and was extremely excited about the prospect of being completely immersed in a lifestyle that was so different from my own daily life in the United States. I am excited to see what each new day has in store, and hope that you all enjoy reading my updates!

Read about Sarah's study abroad experience!
My name is Sarah. I'm currently a junior at Hendrix College majoring in Spanish. I one day hope to do translation work with either the government or a non-profit organization. The main reason why I wanted to study abroad was to get closer to becoming fluent in Spanish. Another reason why I decided to study abroad is because I think the experience of being an outsider in another culture is a good experience for everyone to have. The ability to understand cultures and traditions other than your own is a strong tool that I hope will one day allow me to have a job or the lifestyle to continue traveling throughout the rest of my life.
