Professor Emeritus Dr. Harold F. Robertson, 1937-2023

Retired Education Department member taught at Hendrix for 21 years

CONWAY, Arkansas (September 5, 2023)—The Hendrix College community is saddened by the August 29 passing of Dr. Harold F. Robertson, who taught in the College’s Department of Education from 1979 to 2000. He was 86.

Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 9, 2023, at Greene Chapel on the Hendrix College campus.

Harold Fredrick Robertson, Jr., Professor of Education, Emeritus, at Hendrix College passed away August 29, 2023 at his home in Conway, surrounded by his family. Born May 29, 1937, in Potsdam, NY, his parents were Harold Fredrick Robertson, Sr. and J Elizabeth Humphries Robertson.

Dr. Robertson earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Master of Education in Guidance from St. Lawrence University, Canton, NY; and Master of Physics and Doctorate of Education in Science, Temple University in Philadelphia. Much of his teaching career was devoted to Hendrix College students (21 years), but he also taught at Temple University, St. Lawrence University, Canisius College in Buffalo, NY, and Sheldon Jackson College, Sitka, Alaska. He was a Phi Delta Kappa, Master Mason, and Boy Scout Master.

Harold and his wife, Bette Mae Charlebois Robertson, traveled extensively, often in their RV. They visited all 50 states, Europe, Asia, Russia, Iceland, Norway and islands in the Bering Sea. For 47 years families and friends enjoyed their summer home “Stahamada” on the Racquette River in Northern NY,  where many magical memories were made.  Harold enjoyed his days on the river, boating, fishing, floating, swimming, and teaching many people to water ski.

He is survived by his wife, Bette, and four children, Stacey Kuchinski (David), Harold Frederick Robertson III [Debora], Marcia Robertson, and David Robertson. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Alexys Kuchinski, Megyn Kuchinski, Kenedy Kuchinski, Brooklyn Kuchinski, William Robertson, and Airionna Staggs.
