What Students Have to Say

Jennifer Blunier "I'm glad to have had substantial experience in the classroom before signing on as a full-time teacher.  Student teaching was such an intensive look at the profession that it caused me to reevaluate my perspective and priorities both in and out of the classroom."

Joel Wright "Student Teaching at Hendrix has been a great experience for me. My fears of a large school and of 8th graders were soon to be disproved as I have had fun in both schools. My cooperating teachers have been true masters at teaching, and the amount I have learned from them is incalculable. I think that I am better prepared to teach because of being sent to two different schools. By going to an urban high school and to a suburban middle school, I have had an opportunity to get a larger perspective and see where I want to teach. Despite initial fears that I was not ready to teach, I have found that the Education Department at Hendrix has our group well prepared to face a classroom."

Neil Groat "The Hendrix Education Department really prepared me to student-teach.  I was uncertain about prepared I really was, but after I began I realized that the education classes I had taken really had gotten me ready for the actual teaching experience.  The Hendrix professors really helped in this process as they were always willing to listen to my concerns, offer advice, or simply chat about what I was experiencing in the classroom."

Emily Wells "I had always heard talk about the great student-faculty relationships at Hendrix before I applied.  Now, as a Junior, I have experienced these relationships first-hand.  The Hendrix Education Department knows everything about me, and they're interested in ME.  Dr. Perry has been right by my side as I've been preparing my NCUR presentation and paper.  Not only am I developing as a teacher in the classroom through observations and lessons, but I'm expanding my knowledge outside the classroom through educational research and interaction with the Education Department faculty."

 Ashleigh McGee

"The Education Department at Hendrix has allowed me to have the ultimate hands-on experiences. My Odyssey has included field work, amazing classes, and even a research project designed by me! I have taught, mentored, observed, and tutored in over five different classrooms around Conway, totaling more hours in classrooms than I can count. Hendrix has made my journey to becoming a teacher very special for me. They have provided the ships, and I am ready to set sail!"

Kristy Chambers

“The opportunity to present my research at NCUR was great experience. However, conducting research was the aspect that I valued the most. By combining the teaching profession with an area about which I am passionate, I have gained some valuable insights into helping students achieve in the classroom. This research opportunity has broaden my view of the numerous variables that come together to create a conducive learning environment, successful students, and influential teachers.”
