Responsibilities of the Officers
 

President

  • At all times, be in contact with the education department faculty and staff concerning organization matters (i.e. meetings, organization information, and plans)
  • Serve as the organization representative on campus (i.e. freshman orientation and other campus functions)
  • Chair general and officers' meetings, scheduling officers' meetings as needed
  • Take care of room reservations for all meetings
  • Ensure that committees are formed for major activities (banquet, lock-in, etc), and keep close contact with committee heads to ensure that they are following through with committee responsibilities.
  • For meetings and activities, make sure that all publicity is taken care of (Hendrix Today, student email, Hendrix mail, campus signs, etc.) This is the secretary's responsibility; however it is a lot of work and is often distributed among officers
  • Be cognizant of the balances of SAEA accounts (on-and off-campus)
  • When problems arise, take care of it

Vice President

  • The duties of the vice-president are not isolated into a simple job description. The main duty is to fill in for the president whenever necessary. Overall, the vice-president may be asked to represent Hendrix College Student Arkansas Education Association for events, such as conferences, presentations, banquets, or other school related events. Additionally, the vice-president may have to fill an array of duties within the organization that my include, but are not limited to sending out newsletters, and emails to members, leading meetings, designing flyers, and organizing SAES functions. The vice-president may also collaborate within the president about agendas for executive branch meetings and general meetings.

Treasurer

  • Assist in planning events and meetings for SAEA
  • Attend officers' meetings
  • Attend SAEA meetings
  • Devise budget projections and plans for SAEA events
  • Get purchase orders (for on-campus account) for SAEA needs
  • Keep record of on and off campus accounts
  • Sign checks (for off campus account) for SAEA needs

Parliamentarian/Historian

  • The parliamentarian/Historian position includes making sure that meetings and events start promptly and remain on task throughout the times allocated. This position is also responsible for keeping a record of the club's activities throughout the year possible in the form of a scrapbook. This scrapbook should include pictures and mementos of the year's events and accomplishments. Additionally, the parliamentarian/historian may help do other jobs as specified by the president or other officers

The SAEA 

The SAEA is the National Education Association student program and professional organization for future teachers. Its purpose, “shall be to develop in prospective educators an understanding of the education profession, to provide for a united student voice in matters affecting their profession, to provide for a united student voice in matters affecting their profession, to influence the conditions under which prospective educators are prepared, to advance the interests and welfare of students preparing for a career in education, to promote and protect human and civil rights, and to stimulate the highest ideals and professional ethics, standards, and attitudes.” (NEA Bylaws, ART 1, Sec. 2)
